It’s the middle of July, you are as close to the end of summer as you are to the beginning. You are in the middle, sand stuck to your freshly tanned skin and salt in your wavy hair. Time has no meaning; you might as well have abandoned it altogether as you count the hours in beer bottles with fresh lime and juicy summer fruits. Who knew all you needed to experience unfiltered joy was ripe mangos and the rays of a midday sun?
The sun slowly sets, and your scarf, which previously doubled as a beach towel, is now your evening dress. You tie it in a manner that only makes sense to you, turning it round and round until it becomes the outfit – that careless summer uniform. You get up from the spot you have dubbed as yours for weeks and slowly make a move to the streets where you will dance all night as the sunset plays you out, giving your day a pink-ish orange tone.

The melody hummed in my head, and I was instantly transported to a memory of falling in love at sunset in Rio de Janeiro, where I was born.”
